Give a second look to those baskets of seemingly useless junk at thrift stores or salvage yards: old spindles, Asian coins, discarded house keys, or even errant skate keys. With the right bolt and the proper nut, they can be fashioned into cabinet knobs and pulls that wouldn’t be caught dead in a big box discount hardware store. The possibilities are endless; use your imagination but do avoid fine points and sharp edges especially if you have children or pets in the house.
