Marmoleum is an all-natural, affordable green flooring option.

Linoleum isn't just for the high school cafeteria anymore. Forbo flooring makes eco-friendly linoleum called Marmoleum, which is as chic as it is sustainable. A 100 percent natural product made from linseed oil, wood flour, rosin, jute and limestone, Marmoleum is offered in a variety of colors and comes in three different forms: sheets, click panels and tile. Because it is not made with harmful chemicals, the flooring helps keep indoor air clean by preventing off-gassing.
Starting at just $7 a square foot, it's an affordable green flooring alternative. "Marmoleum is a great product for kitchens," says LEED-certified designer Deborah Crosby from the Green Fusion Design Center. Crosby's favorite form is the click panels, which click together easily without adhesives to create a floating floor. "It's bio-degradable and does not release harmful substances or gases; as it decomposes the raw materials return to nature," says Crosby. But don't expect it to decompose anytime soon — Marmoleum has a life expectancy of nearly 40 years.
